4 corners where self-learning content hides

Are you under an assumption that self-learning content of your organization is limited to those expensive e-learning modules that you bought? Think again. Do you really think those are the only topics on which learning is happening in your organization?

For any organization, most of the learning needed, and happening, would extend far beyond those professionally developed e-learning modules. Learning is happening every day, haphazardly and yes, quite inefficiently. Why do I say so?

Here are the four corners where your organization’s self-learning content hides:
  1. Documentation store – that treasure of vast information where finding what you need is a herculean task
  2. Internal wiki – the ready reckoner that promises great search and boring long form content
  3. Training slides – those power point presentations that make sense when the experts talk using them, but tell precious little when read
  4. Video recordings – of dozens of training hours, that cause you to doze off before you reach the part you need
Employees joining your company are thrown into this sea of knowledge. Many existing ones have to also find their way through these as they have to learn to do new tasks.

Don’t you think this material needs to be self-learnable? Should this material not follow those basic self-learning content rules that you expect your commercially bought content to follow? What if anyone in your organization could create great self-learning material in no time?

I will leave you with these thoughts.
